Introduction

Welcome to The Travelling Photographer: Fundamentals. My name is David Hobby. In this course, I'll be your teacher, your colleague, and finally your travelling partner. This is not your usual photography lesson, I'll say that right away. In fact, I'd say it's likely unique compared to any other photography course you've ever done. I'll also admit right away that The Travelling Photographer isn't specifically about travel photography. Consider it more in this manner. The balance between travelling and carrying a camera as a photographer is the subject of the book The Travelling Photographer.

You may need to practise landscape, portrait, architectural, and/or photojournalistic techniques when taking travel photographs. Everything is up to you and how you decide to define it. Despite the adage that everything should be more about the journey than the final destination, I contend that travel photography is actually very much about both. When I take my camera equipment on a trip, I aim to chronicle three main things: what I see, who I see, and how I observe life unfolding in front of me. By distant, I mean that I'm not in the local region of my home. I want my vacation photographs to be shared with the public if that is how a shot concludes its natural life cycle.

Travel videos come in a variety of styles, from the typical walk-and-talk vlogging style to a more street run-gun-shoot type, so it's crucial that you decide on the style before you start filming.

What Camera Gear Do I Use?

My go-to camera used to be a smaller, lighter setup, and that was the Sony Rx100M3. For those who are unfamiliar with basic camera settings like aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, this is a wonderful place to start. The RX100 gives you the ability to go manual if you need to while helping to automate the majority of the process.

What Is Travel Photography?

The practice of taking photos while travelling is known as travel photography. The objective is to document the places you explore and the experiences you have. It combines several different genres. It encompasses photography of landscapes, cities, people, the environment, and even buildings. You can capture pictures of the landscapes you explore, individuals you meet, or the architecture of the buildings you view. By constantly snapping selfies, you can even hone your self-portraiture talents.

The travel photographer's camera captures a place's unique character, culture, and customs, whether it's in a nation halfway over the world or a neighbourhood not far from home. A smartphone can frequently be more than adequate with the correct creative approach. But figuring this out is difficult. Because they are compensated for each task or activity they do, travel photographers aren't always paid on a monthly basis. There aren't many jobs that provide you with the freedom and flexibility to work and travel simultaneously. It is a privilege to be able to travel to different regions of the world as part of your daily life. The voyage includes significant stops where you can meet new people and discover their cultures. It's an honourable and fascinating profession. I'll now go into how you can make money with your trip photographs.

Start by investigating potential clients for your services. Next, try to get in touch with them and let them know how you can assist them.
